Trip to Coorg from Bangalore
We planned for a 3 day trip to Coorg. Thanks to Google Maps and Tata Plantation Trails for making the journey and stay enjoyable. Overview of the plan and the trip is as below. Hope, it will be some use to people who “Google” around on the “Trip to Coorg”!!!
Accommodation Booking:Based on the feedback from many of our friends we preferred Home Stay to a hotel accommodation. Having had a prior pleasant experience with Tata Ginger Hotels, we tried and got the accommodation in Tata Coffee Plantation Trails, Pollibetta near Madikeri. Try to book accommodation at least 10days in advance

Trip Summary:
Day1:Started from Dommasandra, Sarjapur in Bangalore at 7.40am and entered NICE Road at around 8.20am. We took deviation to SH17 Mysore Road, passed by Wonderla at 8.55am and Innovative Film City at 9am.Crossed Ramnagar (called Silk City of Karnataka) at 9.10am. Other places to visit in Ramnagar are Cauvery Fishing Camp and Janapada Loka, which we could not cover. Crossed Channapatna, the land of Toys at 9.25am.
Just before entering Maddur we had breakfast at Kadambam. Within 5 km radius, you get many eat outs like Kamat, Café Coffe Day, Mc Donalds, KFC etc. Maddur Tiffinys is another popular place in Maddur for delicious breakfast. Crossed Maddur at 10.10am. Entered Mandya (called Sugar City of Karnataka) at around 10.25am and crossed at around 10.35am
Just then we get a call welcome/courtesy call from Tata Plantation Trails enquiring when we would be reaching and what kind of food we would like to be served.
We entered historical town Srirangapatna at 10.55am. Once you enter Srirangapatna you got to look for a huge sign board “Thank you for visiting Srirangapatna”. The deviation to Hunsur Road at this junction could be little confusing. Towards right there will be a right turn (1) with Laxminarasimha temple coming on to the RHS and then a kind of U turn to a side lane (2) with temple coming on to the LHS. Take the turn no 1. Once you enter this road, within 100m you get to cross the railway track (Paschimavani Station). Within 1km after the track, you will also see the deviation road to “Ranganthittu Bird Sanctuary”. You take this deviation only if you want to visit the sanctuary, otherwise head straight on the road to Hunsur. From this junction Hunsur is 135kms away. The road till Yelwal is a single lane and not so good road (though you’ll find the road to be great after experiencing the roads in Madikeri!!). While you continuously find the sign boards to Hunsur, there is yet another place of confusion; a junction at which you see a deviation to Brindavan Gardens on right. DON’T TAKE RIGHT and head straight. We entered Yelwal at 11.30am and the road from there is pretty good. Hunsur is 29kms away from Yelwal. Reached Hunsur at 11.45am.
As we enter Bylekuppe had to take first left after Indian Oil Filling Station and 2-3kms on the same road will lead to Golden Temple. The road is not so good. We reached the temple at 12.40pm. It will take 30mins to go around the temple. We left from the temple at 1.30pm.
Once you get back to the main road, take left and Nisargadhama is 5-6 kms from the temple. After travelling 2.3 kms from Government Primary School and Atithi Veg Restaurant, you find Nisargadhama on left hand side. At this place, walking over hanging bridge and stepping into Cauvery river water is a “Must Not Miss” experience. You also have a deer park inside. You even get to climb on to the tree houses. Boat ride and elephant ride was closed when we visited. We left from Nisargadhama at 3.40pm. Reached Tata Plantation Trails, Pollibetta around 5.30pm and were served Hot Pakodas (on request) and tea at the “TaneerHulla” bungalow.
Day2:In the morning at around 6.30am, we were taken out for a walk in the trails. We returned from the walk around 7.30am and started to Talakaveri at 9am. After Moonad, Google Map shows deviation to right before a petrol pump; you DON’T take this right, instead go towards the petrol pump and follow the sign board “Talakaveri 43km”. The road from Pollibetta till Bettigiri is not good and gets better from Bettigiri till Bhagamandala. We reached Bhagamandala at 11am. Triveni Sangamam (where rivers Cauvery, Kannika and Sujyoti meet) and Bhagandeshwara temple are the attractions at Bhagamandala. We started to Talakaveri at 11.45am. Talakaveri is 8kms from Bhagamandala and the drive is very strenuous on the highly steep and curved roads. When you reach the peak of Talakavery, it is a little disappointment as it is more of a view point and you don’t even get to touch holy water (it is a small pool of 2 x 2 ft).
We left from Talakaveri at 1.30pm and headed towards Madikeri via Bhagamandala and Bettigiri. The 5-6km drive before Madikeri is again very irritating with the steep, poorly maintained and narrow roads. We reached Madikeri at 2.30pm and had lunch in Atithi Veg Restaurant (which was more like a mess/canteen). Don’t expect great food around this place. We left to Abbi Falls. Madikeri to Abbi falls road again is very bad. At Abbi falls, you only get to see the falls and don’t get to go into the waters, but the place is worth watching.
From Abbi falls we left to Raja’s Seat in Madikeri. Though it looks like a small garden, this is yet another view point of the scenic beauty of Coorg. There is even a Toy Train in the garden which is a good attraction particularly for kids. We started back from Raja’s Seat at 5pm and reached Tata Trails at Pollibetta by 6.30pm
Day3:We checked out from the trails at 8am and left for Dubare Elephant Camp on the way to Madikere. We had to take a boat ride to cross the river and reach the other side of the river where elephants were brought for bathing and the visitors also get to participate. Ensure to reach camp by 9am if you don’t want to miss this. We also went for water rafting and then enjoyed Elephant Safari after a wait of 1 hour in the queue.
We were done with all the fun at the camp by 12Noon and started to Talakad which is 60kms from Srirangapatna. We reached Talakad by 5pm, completed the Pancha Linga Darshanam and started back at 6.30pm to Bangalore via Kanakapura.
